lder's Fun Night: A Night to Remember

On December 1st, 2024, the Have nots Foundation, Toronto Canada, hosted the 3rd edition of its annual Elder's Fun Night, a spectacular event that celebrated the wisdom, experience, and contributions of our beloved elders. The evening was a masterclass in entertainment, recognition, and community bonding, as Mrs. Janet Yusuf, the C.E.O of the Have nots Foundation and her team outdid themselves in creating an unforgettable experience.

A Night of Recognition

The evening kicked off with the recognition of dignitaries and prayers led by Constable/Chaplain Ojo Tewogbade, while the Director of Programs, Ayaba Kemi Amusan (Lady-Kay) welcome audience and invited the Convener of the Vision, Mrs. Janet Yusuf into the main bowl with a well deserved ovation.

Among the dignitaries on the high table was Dr. & Mrs. Joshua Yusuf (the Convener, and her lovely husband who is the founder of All Saint University School of Medicine, Dominica), Chief (Mrs.) Joy Tola-Adeniyi, Dr. Engr. Gabriel Ogundele, and others.

One of the high points of the occasion was the Vintage Awards, a special recognition ceremony that honored the achievements and contributions of outstanding elders in the community. The awardees, beaming with pride, received their well-deserved accolades amidst thunderous applause and cheers from the audience. Among those who were recognized for their outstanding contributions to humanity and community are, the oldest woman and man in the community, while a special recognition, and Award were given to a quintessential community builder, Mama Lydia Ola Adekolu for being a frontliner in community building for over three decades.

Worthy of note was the Toronto Police Award Certificates, presented to some outstanding personalities at the event for their various contributions to security and selfless services.

Dancing Queens and Kings

The dancing competition that followed was a showstopper, with elders showcasing their best moves to the delight of the crowd. The energy was electric, and the joy was palpable as participants and spectators alike let loose and had a blast.

Raffle Draw

At a point during the event, raffle tickets were distributed to everyone with expectations of what will happen after, 3-tickets were later picked at random by different individuals, and the lucky ones were presented with not just beautiful but amazing gifts. The atmosphere was lively, while both the laughter and applause were contagious.


Interactive Sessions

The interactive session was another banger, as it kept the audience engaged and entertained.  A panel of four members was raised to do justice to the topic captioned; Challenges of Old Age, And How To Combat Loneliness.

The topic was extensively, and brilliantly dealt with by the panelists, composed of Chief (Mrs.) Joy Tola-Adeniyi, Mama Lydia Ola Adekolu, Dr. Engr. Gabriel Ogundele, and Mr. Emmanuel Atiku of Ghanian News.


Gifts Galore

As a token of appreciation, the Have nots Foundation presented each elder with a thoughtful gift, a gesture that touched their hearts and showed that they were valued and cherished. Everyone went back home fully loaded with invaluable, and memorable gifts.


A Night to Remember

The 3rd edition of the Elder's Fun Night was a resounding success, with attendees leaving with big smiles and warm hearts. The event was a testament to the power of community and the importance of honoring our elders. As Mrs. Janet Yusuf noted, "Our elders are the pillars of our community, and it's our duty to celebrate and recognize their contributions. We're proud to host this event and look forward to many more years of giving back to our community."
